Dawn Randazzo asks the group to identify traditional binders used in dyeing or material preparation. Participants suggest bear grease, seal oil, and whale oil as common examples. Deborah McMullen refers to these as the “original essential oils.” A Berlin Ethnological Museum staff member inquires if glues were traditionally used like fish glue, and McMullen agrees that they were used.
