A Berlin Ethnological Museum staff member observes a section of the gut garment that appears to have been altered or "chopped off" after its original construction. Deborah McMullen notes that she has never encountered a skirt-like piece in any other collection. She suggests that, given the time period, it was possibly made for creole women and raises the possibility that elements of the clothing’s construction were influenced by garments worn by travelers passing through the region.
