This book provides an overview of traditional weaving techniques to the Alutiiq people, including the grass weaving tradition, the spruce root weaving tradition, the baleen weaving tradition, and the use of sinew. After briefly surveying typical Alutiiq garments made through these techniques and the significance of items such as the spruce root hat, the book takes a deep dive into several items within the museum's collection and communicates the story behind these objects and their creators.
