Alaska Native Art: Tradition, Innovation, Continuity

This work catalogs artistic works that originate predominantly from four different exhibitions and focuses on the artists themselves and the artistic process behind the art products.

This work catalogs artistic works that originate predominantly from four different exhibitions: the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, the 3MG Hospital, Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, the Maniilaq Health Center in Kotzebue, and the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel. The work is notable for its focus on the artists and the artistic process, rather than purely focusing on the aristic product. The work has seven chapters: 1) The Nature of Tradition, 2) "Eskimos" and "Aleuts," 3) Alaska Indians, 4) Genres, Boundaries, and Ways of Making, 5) Assembling Collections, Making Exhibitions, 6) The Importance of Place, 7) Tradition as Process.
