The War Canoe


This coming-of-age novel tells the story of 17 year-old Mickey Church, a Tlingit youth from Wrangell. When he learns about Tlingit history, he builds a traditional Tlingit war canoe and learns how honoring the past creates a meaningful present and future.

Mickey, a young Tlingit Indian who is a troublemaker in his small Alaska town, discovers his proud heritage with the help of several interested adults and builds a traditional war canoe to honor his discovery
