In 2011, Alutiiq weavers journeyed with Dr. Sven Haakanson to St. Petersburg Russia to view baskets collected in Alaska by Russian traders over 200 years ago. The weavers explain the inspiration they gained from studying the ancestral collections and how they weave. The practice of collecting grass, and teaching basketry highlights the modern era of basket weaving in the Kodiak area. (Description taken from the back of the DVD).
