Elder participants discuss how the families settled along the coast, the importance of subsistence resources, the introduction of the western communities through the Russian explorers, and how where people settled was related to where resources were readilly available, and as people became more dependent upon the cash economy, villages became established. They discuss family use areas, weather and environmental conditions, traditional place names, and more.
